On 4 and 5 April, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will present the premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s opera “La Bohème” staged by Vladimir Kekhman, who looked at the classical plot from the 21st century. As in previous works, in the new production the main focus of the stage director are tragic human destinies.
Does love and friendship exist in the bohemian circle, or is there only a semblance of relationships in this world? Will the characters be able to fulfil their potential or will they die without creating something truly great?
Thanks to the director’s original perspective of musical theatre, the feelings and relationships of the characters will be shown from the new point of view. While the romantic atmosphere of Paris and the great music of Puccini will only emphasize the deep spiritual transformation that they will experience.

The opera will become the first co-production of the Mikhailovsky Theatre and the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT).
The main roles in the new production will be performed by young talented artists of two theatres: Margarita Shapovalova, Alexandra Sennikova, Sergey Kuzmin, Semyon Antakov, Alexander Shakhov, Alexander Bezrukov (Mikhailovsky Theatre), Kristina Kalinina, Diana Belozor, Nikita Mukhin (NOVAT), as well as invited soloists — Karlen Manukyan and Igor Podoplelov.

Premiere of the production: 4 April 2025

Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa based on the novel “Scènes de la vie de bohème” by Henri Murger
