It is a natural urge in the creative soul of all musicians to go beyond their usual repertoire and communicate with the public by other means. With this in mind, the idea naturally came about for a series of chamber music concerts where the musical performance takes a different form and follows other rules.
The plush interior of the dress circle foyer will serve as the venue for a number of programmes presented by soloists from the Mikhailovsky Theatre orchestra and opera company, which will feature some of the best works in chamber music.
In 2024, the music world celebrates 220 years since the birth of Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. The greatest composer of the 19th century is considered the founder of Russian national opera. It is no coincidence that he is called “Pushkin of music”, because Glinka’s contribution to the development of musical art in Russia is comparable only to the contribution of the great poet in the history of Russian literature and language.
Glinka himself was not only friends with Pushkin for many years, but also composed ten magnificent romances based on Pushkin’s poems. The first lines of one of them gave the name to the chamber concert program at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
The concert “I remember a wonderful moment...” is a tribute to the genius of the great composer and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the masterpieces of Glinka’s vocal and instrumental music performed by the leading soloists of the theatre.
