Maria Litke

soprano, soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre opera
Honoured Artist of St. Petersburg

Maria Litke graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory in 2005, where her teacher was People’s Artist of the USSR Irina Bogacheva.
From 2004 to 2006, Maria Litke was a soloist at the Conservatory Opera Theatre, and in 2006 she joined the troupe of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
The artist took part in master classes by Elena Obraztsova, Alexandrina Miltcheva, Marcello Giordani, Neil Shicoff. She has collaborated with many famous conductors, including Vassily Sinaisky, Frédéric Chaslin, Daniele Rustioni and Leon Botstein.
In 2013, the singer took part in the first performance of the full version of S. I. Taneyev’s opera “Oresteia” at the Bard SummerScape festival in the Fisher Center (USA), performing the roles of Cassandra and Athena.
Composer Alexander Izosimov invited Maria Litke to record two discs, which included the vocal cycles “Songs of the Beautiful Alien” based on the verses of Andrei Tarkovsky and “Spanish Songs” based on the verses of Federico Garcia Lorca. The singer’s discography also includes a recording of the opera “Iolanta” conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov. Critics note the singer’s soft and at the same time sonorous, strong dramatic soprano, which allows her to solve very complex creative challenges: “Maria Litke demonstrates the strength and steely flexibility of her voice.”
Currently, Maria Litke teaches at the department of solo singing at the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory.
In 2024, the singer was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of St. Petersburg.
