Vittorio Grigolo

Born in Arezzo and raised in Rome, Vittorio Grigolo started his singing career as a child soloist at the Sistine Chapel with the Schola Puerorum Cantorum. At 13, he appeared as the Shepherd boy in “Tosca” at the Rome Opera House alongside Luciano Pavarotti. At 23, he became the youngest tenor to inaugurate La Scala under the direction of Riccardo Muti. In 2010, he made his overseas debute as Rodolfo in “La Bohème” at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Following this, he spent several years touring the world, performing with such renowned conductors as Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Myung-whun Chung, Gustavo Dudamel, and Antonio Pappano.
His career is continuously rising on the most prestigious stages: Arena di Verona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bavarian Opera, Liceu Theatre in Barcelona, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Opera Garnier in Paris, Royal Opera Covent Garden in London, Vienna and Zurich Opera Houses. His repertoire includes tenor roles in the Bizet’s “Carmen”, Gounod’s “Faust” and “Romeo et Juliet”, Verdi’s “Don Carlos”, “Il Trovatore”, “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto”, Puccini’s “La Boheme” and “Tosca”, Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann”, Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Massenet’s “Manon”.
In 2024, he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Alfredo in “La traviata”. In 2025, he will make his debut at the Mikhailovsky Theatre as Jose in “Carmen”. In the 2025/26 season, Vittorio Grigolo will also sing in “Cavalleria rusticana” at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, “Carmen” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Cavaradossi in “Tosca” at the Berlin State Opera, Romeo in “Romeo et Juliet” at the Rome Opera and Manrico in “Il trovatore” in Madrid.
His big screen appearances include the Rai live broadcast, as the Duke of Mantua in “Rigoletto” produced by Andermann and directed by Bellocchio, alongside Placido Domingo and Ruggero Raimondi.
Among the awards he received are the European Border Breakers for his first solo album, Best Tenor in 2011, ECHO Klassik in 2011 and Opera News in 2018. He has won the Caruso Prize, the Puccini Prize, the Tiberini d’Oro, and the Special Achievement Award from the National Italian American Foundation.
