Born in 1977 as Compagnia di Balletto dei Teatri dell’Emilia — Romagna directed by Vittorio Biagi, since 1979 the company has been calling Aterballetto under the direction of Amedeo Amodio. Composed by soloist dancers capable of performing in every dance style, Aterballetto has gained wide recognition on Italy and the international scene, thanks to the high quality of the performers and the artistic directors: Amedeo Amodio (1979-1997), Mauro Bigonzetti (1997-2007, until 2012 principal choreographer) and Cristina Bozzolini (2008-2017). In September 2017, Gigi Cristoforetti became the director of Fondazione Nazionale della Danza — Aterballetto. The Fondazione Nazionale della Danza was born in 2003. The members of the Fondazione are Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. The Fondazione Nazionale della Danza develops its producing and touring activity under the name Aterballetto
Throughout its recent history many Italian and international choreographers have collaborated with the company, such as Mauro Bigonzetti, William Forsythe, Johan Inger, Jiří Kylián, Jiří Pokorny, Hofesh Shechter and Giuseppe Spota.

Golden Days
Choreography: Johan Inger
Music: Tom Waits, Keith Jarrett
Set Design: Johan Inger
Costume Design: Johan Inger, Francesca Messori
Lighting Design: Peter Lundin

Golden Days presents existing works of Johan Inger — Rain Dogs and Bliss. Rain Dogs and Bliss are two distinctive works, made years apart and are conceptually and choreographically far from each other, inviting the viewer to dive into two different worlds, though illustrating reoccurring themes in Johan Inger’s work: loss, change and the consequences thereof. The concept and what holds this evening together is of course the choice of music: Tom Waits and Keith Jarrett. Through their music and their art, these artists have influenced and help change a whole generation. We feel a certain sense of history/nostalgia, a place in the past that seemed (at least looking at it nowadays) simple and free.

Wolf
Choreography and Music: Hofesh Shechter
Light and Costume: Hofesh Shechter

Hofesh Shechter is one of the most intense and visceral choreographers in the world of contemporary dance. This may be because he usually composes the music himself, which is thus closely in tune with the energy of his movement. The outcome is like a punch, in his own words, which hits the spectator like a wave of energy. In Wolf, an old piece of his, which he has now recreated for Aterballetto, we find a kind of wild animal quality, running intermittently through the men and women. The overall composition carries us into a totally original and engaging universe.
