Timur Zangiev

the principal guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre

Timur Zangiev was born in 1994 in Moscow. He started learning music at the age of 3, and already at the age of 7 he first conducted the Symphonic Orchestra of the Vladikavkaz Philharmonic Hall.
He studied symphony conducting at the music school of the Valery Gergiev Vladikavkaz Art College (class of Tamerlan Khosroev), at the Academic Music College of the Moscow State Conservatory (class of professor Anatoly Levin) and later at the Moscow State Conservatory (class of professor Gennady Rozhdestvensky).
When still a student, he started working with the leading orchestras of Russia — Symphonic Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia, the Moscow Virtuosi and the Novaya Rossiya ensemble. He took part in the International Eliso Virsaladze Music Festival in Telavi, the festivals Debussy and His Time in Moscow and High Music Days in Samara. At the time, he received a stipend of the Vladimir Spivakov’s International Charity Foundation.
In 2012, he started cooperation with the Moscow State Academic Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. Timur Zangiev’s repertoire includes over 40 opera and ballet titles, as well as numerous symphonic works.
His recent engagements includes concerts with the Russian National Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, Evgeny Svetlanov State Academic Orchestra, Academic Symphonic Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic Hall, as well as performances at the Mariinsky Theatre: The Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart, Kashchey the Immortal, Mozart and Salieri, The May Night, and The Tale of Tsar Saltan by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, Viaggio a Reims by Gioacchino Rossini. At the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, he became music director and conductor of The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky (staged by Simon McBurney) and Romeo and Juliet by Sergey Prokofiev (choreography by Maxim Sevagin, stage direction by Konstantin Bogomolov). At the Bolshoi Theatre, he became music director of the ballet premieres of Gaîté Parisienne set to music by Jacques Offenbach and Manuel Rosenthal and Symphony in C set to music by Georges Bizet, as well as opera Sadko by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov (directed by Dmitry Tcherniakov).
In March 2022, Timur Zangiev made his debut at La Scala in The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. In May 2022, he made his debut at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Tosca by Giacomo Puccini.
In June 2022, Timur Zangiev became the principal guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
