Ivan Shinkarev

In 2015, he graduated from the Tchaikovsky Sverdlovsk Music College, where he studied on the choral conducting faculty under Anatoly Pavkin. In 2021, he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory, specializing in opera and symphony conducting under Professor Alexander Polishchuk. In 2019–2021, he undertook an internship with the USSR People’s Artist Vladimir Fedoseev at the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra. In 2022–2023, he completed a postgraduate assistantship-internship under the supervision of USSR People’s Artist, Professor Yury Simonov.
In 2017, Ivan founded and became the Artistic Director of the St Petersburg CreatoSymphony Youth Symphony Orchestra. As part of the “Mariinsky for Children” festival, the orchestra under his direction staged productions of the operas “The Little Prince” (2017) and “The Guys” (2020–2021) by composer Sergey Pleshak. In 2018, together with director Dmitry Otyakovsky, he staged W. A. Mozart’s opera “Bastien und Bastienne” at the Hermitage Theatre. In 2024, as part of the opera-symphonic laboratory “Homeland of Great People”, he staged Sergey Prokofiev’s opera “The Story of a Real Man”.
He collaborates with the Academic Symphony Orchestras of the St Petersburg, Moscow and Samara Philharmonics, the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra, the St Petersburg Governor’s Symphony Orchestra, the Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra of the St Petersburg Conservatory, the Music Theatre of the Republic of Karelia, the Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Smolensk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the MolOt (Young October) ensemble, the MolOt-School Festival Symphony Orchestra, and the Studio for New Music.
The conductor’s repertoire includes the operas “La Traviata”, “Macbeth”, “Otello” by Giuseppe Verdi; “Rita” by Gaetano Donizetti; “Eugene Onegin”, “The Queen of Spades”, and “Iolanta” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky; “The Tsar’s Bride” and “The Snow Maiden” by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov; “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” by Kirill Molchanov; and “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” by Dmitry Shostakovich. His repertoire also includes the operettas “Moscow, Cheryomushki” by Dmitry Shostakovich, “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss, and “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehár; and the ballets “The Nutcracker”, “Swan Lake” and “The Sleeping Beauty” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky; “Giselle” by Adolphe Adam; “Attila” by Giuseppe Verdi; and “The Little Humpbacked Horse” by Rodion Shchedrin.
In November 2021, Ivan made his debut at the Grand Hall of the St Petersburg State Philharmonia with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonia. From 2021 to 2024, he served as conductor and senior lecturer of the opera class at the Institute of Music, Theatre, and Choreography of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.
During the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 seasons, he conducted the Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra, and from September 2025, he became a permanent guest conductor of the Tyumen Philharmonia.
Since October 2025, Ivan Shinkarev has been a conductor at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
