Born in Dresden, bass baritone Johannes von Duisburg, made his role-debuts as Don Pizarro in Fidelio and as the world’s youngest Fliegender Holländer during his fixed engagement with the opera house in Schwerin. Since 1992, he has worked as a freelance singer at many prestigious opera stages such as Geneva, Lisbon, Florence, Cagliari, Napoli, Rome (Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Teatro dell’Opera), Bologna, Moscow, Prague, Strasbourg and the Festivals of Wexford and Bregenz, Savonlinna Opera Festival.
He has worked with such stage directors as Francesca Zambello, Harry Kupfer, Hans-Peter Lehmann, Nicolaus Lehnhoff, Mariusz Trelinski, and Willy Decker.
His repertoire includes Jochanaan in Salome, Amonasro in Aida, Kaspar in Der Freischütz, Escamillo in Carmen, Scarpia in Tosca, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Telramund in Lohengrin, Wanderer in Siegfried, Wotan in Die Walküre, Don Pizarro in Fidelio, John Claggart in Billy Budd, Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr. Miracle and Dapertutto in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
