Gennady Yanin

Honoured Artist of Russia

Gennady Yanin graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School in 1986 (class of Alexei Zakalinsky) and was accepted into the troupe of the K. S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Musical Theatre. In 1995, the artist joined the troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre. From 2003 to 2011, he held the position of head of the theatre’s ballet troupe. Since 2011, Gennady Yanin has been a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, working under a contract.
In 1999, Gennady Yanin received the title of Honoured Artist of Russia, and in the 2002/2003 season he won the Special Jury Prize of the National Theatre Award “Golden Mask” for the part of the Accordion Player in the ballet “The Limpid Stream” by Dmitry Shostakovich, directed by Alexei Ratmansky.
Over the years of his performing career, the dancer has embodied more than 40 images on stage. Today, Gennady Yanin is one of the best performers of character parts, such as Coppélius (“Coppelia”), Madge (“La Sylphide”), Widow Simone (“Vain Precaution”), Modest Alekseevich (“Anyuta”), Fairy Carabosse (“Sleeping Beauty”).
Since 2009, he has been the permanent host of the program “Absolute Pitch” on the “Culture” TV channel.
