Vadim Volkov

Graduated from Krasnodar Rimsky-Korsakov Music College in 2013 (class of A. Gubareva), from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts GITIS, department of musical theatre (workshop of D. Bertman, vocal teacher E. Sarkisyan) in 2018.

In the 2014/15 season he made his debut at Helikon Opera as Oreste (The Beautiful Helen by J. Offenbach). In January 2015, he took part in a concert performance of “Demon” opera by A. G. Rubinstein at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Angel part). In 2015 he performed the role of Sasha in the world premiere of the opera “The Little Demon” by A. B. Zhurbin at the Pokrovsky Chamber Musical Theatre.

In the 2015/16 season the singer performed the roles of Nezhata (“Sadko” by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov), King Gustav IV (“Tsarina” by D. F. Tukhmanov), the Robber (“Doctor Haass” by A. Yu. Sergunin) at Helikon Opera.

In 2016–2018 he performed in the Bolshoi Theatre Youth Opera Program. The artist performed with Yuri Bashmet in Antwerp (Belgium), took part in a Christmas concert at the Russian Embassy in Berlin (Germany), a concert of artists of the Bolshoi Theatre Youth Opera Program at the Brucknerhaus in Linz (Austria), as well as in the Orfeo music festival. He completed an internship at La Scala Academy in Milan. Performed as Countertenor in “Nureev” ballet by I. A. Demutsky at the Bolshoi Theatre.

In 2018 the singer performed A. Vivaldi’s cantata Cessate, omai cessate. He performed on the stage of the Gogol Center in the play “Baroque” (directed by Kirill Serebrennikov).

In 2020, he performed the role of Nezhata in the premiere series of performances “Sadko” by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (conductor Timur Zangiev, director Dmitry Chernyakov) at the Bolshoi Theatre.
In 2021, he performed the roles of Basmanov (“The Oprichnik” by P. I. Tchaikovsky) at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, Ruggiero (“Alcina” by G. F. Handel) at the Olimpico Theatre (conducted by Andrea Marcon), Apollo (“La Concordia de’ Pianeti” by A. Caldara) at the Romanian Athenaeum and Theater an der Wien (conductor Andrea Marcon), Prince Myshkin (“The Idiot” by A.V. Kobekin) at the Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre.

In 2023, he performed the roles of Basmanov (“The Oprichnik” by P. I. Tchaikovsky) at the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, Mephistopheles (“The Story of Dr. Johann Faust” by A. G. Schnittke) at the State Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg (conductor Anton Lubchenko), as well as the Countertenor in the world premiere “The Queen of Spades” ballet by Yu. V. Krasavin — P. I. Tchaikovsky at the Bolshoi Theatre (conductor Pavel Klinichev).
