Pyotr Belyakin

Pyotr Belyakin graduated from the Novosibirsk State Glinka Conservatoire as a clarinet player in 1995 and as a conductor in 2004. Since 1991, he has worked with the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre as a clarinet concertmaster and a conductor. Since 2014, he has been a guest conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. Since 2016, he has been an associate musical director and principal conductor of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

As a conductor and an assistant of Teodor Currentzis, he participated in the productions of Verdi’s Macbeth (co-production of the Novosibirsk State Opera and Paris National Opera) in Novosibirsk (2008) and Paris (Opéra Bastille, 2009), as well as in the productions of Berg’s Wozzeck at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (2009), Weinberg’s Passenger in Bregenz (2010), and Mozart’s Così fan tutte in Baden-Baden (2011). As a conductor and an assistant of Ainārs Rubiķis, he participated in the first Russian production of Bernstein’s Mass, as well as in the concert performance of Stravinsky’s Les noces and in the productions of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and Le Sacre du printemps, and others.

Pyotr Belyakin is a musical director and conductor of many opera and ballet productions and concert performances of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: Khachaturian’s Spartacus (2011), Le Corsaire (2012), Gounod’s Faust (2012), Salieri’s Prima la musica e poi le parole (2012), Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (2012), Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio (2013), Stravinsky’s Mavra (2013), Nyman’s Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat (2014), Molchanov’s Canterville Ghost (world première, 2014), Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (concert performance, 2015), and Verdi’s Othello (concert performance, 2016).

The conductor’s répertoire includes: Puccini’s Tosca and Turandot, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, Chopiniana set to Chopin’s music, Polovtsian Dances set to music from Borodin’s Prince Igor, Scheherazade set to music of the suite by Rimsky-Korsakov, and others.

As a clarinet concertmaster, he has toured with the orchestra of the Novosibirsk Theatre to Moscow, St Petersburg, Spain, Portugal, Holland, China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, and Greece. He was a musical director of the ballet Spartacus staged in Seoul in 2007 (collaboration of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Korean National Ballet).

Since 2015, he has collaborated with the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
