Ilya Kutyukhin
baritone, soloist of the Novaya Opera Theatre
Ilya Kutyukhin graduated from the Gnessin State Musical College in 2008 (class of Olga Dementieva) and continued his studies at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (class of Alexander Naumenko), graduating in 2014. He participated in productions of the Opera Studio at the Academy, performing the roles of Onegin (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”) and Marcello (Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème”).
He is a graduate of the Bolshoi Theatre’s Young Artists Opera Program. During his time in the program, he took part in numerous chamber music concerts. He performed with the Young Artists Opera Program on tours in France (Toulon Opera and Nice Opera in 2015; Lille Opera in 2016; Théâtre du Châtelet in 2017).
He made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in the role of Morales (Georges Bizet’s “Carmen”), followed by the roles of Shchelkalov (Modest Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”), Novice’s Friend (Benjamin Britten’s “Billy Budd”), and Dr Malatesta (Gaetano Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale”).
In the summer of 2017, he was a participant in the Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project, where he performed the roles of the Workman (Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”) and Ascanio Petrucci (Gaetano Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia”). That same year, he debuted at the Glyndebourne Festival in the role of Guglielmo (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”) as part of an opera tour. Later, he performed the same role on the stages of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Vilnius City Opera.
In 2018, Ilya Kutyukhin debuted in the role of Yeletsky (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades”) at the Vilnius City Opera. In the Bregenz Festival’s youth project, he performed the role of Onegin (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”).
In 2019, he made his debut at the Paris Opera in the role of Figaro (Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”). He also performed on the stage of the Opera of Monte-Carlo in the role of Andrey Shchelkalov (Modest Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”), and in the role of Marcello (Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème”) — on the stages of the Polish National Opera (Teatr Wielki), the Teatro Regio in Turin, and the Bolshoi Theatre. In 2022, he made his debut on the stage of The Grange Festival in the role of Prince Yeletsky (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades”). In 2023, he debuted at the Novaya Opera Theatre, performing the roles of Andrey Bolkonsky and Vasily Denisov (Sergey Prokofiev’s “War and Peace”), followed by appearances in the role of Robert (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta”) and Figaro (Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”). In 2024, he performed the role of Guglielmo (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”) on the stage of the Lyon Opera.
In 2024, he joined the company of the Novaya Opera Theatre.
