Igor Dronov
In 1992, Igor Dronov graduated from the Choral Conducting Department as well as from the Opera and Symphony Conducting Department of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. In 1994, he finished his postgraduate studies at the Conservatoire. He also participated in masterclasses held by Georg Solti and Pierre Boulez.
Since 1992, he has been a professor of conducting at the Department of Opera and Symphony Conducting of the Moscow Conservatoire. Since 1994, he has been the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Premiere youth ensemble. In 1991, he started his collaboration with the Bolshoi Theatre. At the Bolshoi Theatre, he has conducted Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Gounod’s Faust, Verdi’s Il trovatore and La traviata, Rachmaninoff’s Aleko and Miserly Knight, and Desyatnikov’s Children of Rosenthal among others. He was the musical director of many Bolshoi ballet productions including Misericordes (world première) and Ward No. 6 to music by Pärt, Magrittomania by Krasavin, Lea to music by Bernstein, Midsummer Night’s Dream to music by Mendelssohn and Ligeti, Serenade to music by Tchaikovsky, Enetime by Delerue, Russian Seasons to music by Desyatnikov (world première), La Fille mal gardée by Hertel, Coppelia by Delibes, Chroma to music by Talbot and White, Cinque to music by Vivaldi, Petrushka, Symphony of Psalms and The Cage to music by Stravinsky, The Taming of the Shrew (world première) and Hamlet to music by Shostakovich, as well as Etudes to music by Riisager after works by Czerny. He also appears in concerts of the Bolshoi Orchestra and cooperates with many renowned orchestras and venues including the Russian National Orchestra, State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Russian Federation, Ensemble Modern (Germany), Finnish National Opera, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonkunstler Orchestra, Turin Royal Theatre, Lincoln Center and others.
Igor Dronov is the founder and the principal conductor of the Studio for New Music ensemble (Moscow). With the ensemble, he has performed over 700 concerts featuring compositions by modern Russian and foreign composers and presented several world premières. He has also been the principal conductor of the Moscow Forum Festival since its foundation and the Musical Director of the New Musical Theatre project. In the framework of the project, various Russian operas received their premières including Luci mie traditrici by Sciarrino, An Index of Metals by Romitelli, and Jenseits der Schatten by Tarnopolsky. Igor Dronov has recorded several CDs of modern Russian and foreign music. He has toured to Europe, USA, and Japan.
