Gelena Gaskarova
She graduated from the St Petersburg State Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 2008 (class of Grayr Khanedanian). In 2001, she became a soloist of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers.
At the Mariinsky Theatre, her repertoire includes roles of Tatiana (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Iolanta (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta), Kupava (Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden), Volkhova (Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko), Oksana (Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s Christmas Eve), Francesca (Sergey Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini), Natasha Rostova (Sergey Prokofiev’s War and Peace), Nastasya Filippovna (Moisey Vaynberg’s Idiot), Fradl (Moisey Vaynberg’s Pozdravlyayem!), Zinaida Gippius (Leonid Klinichev’s Zinaida), First Lady (Mozart’s Magic Flute), Fiordiligi (Mozart’s Così fan tutte), Musetta (Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème), Violetta (Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata), Marguerite (Charles Gounod’s Faust), Maria (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa), Zemfira (Sergey Rachmaninoff’s Aleko), Lidochka (Dmitry Shostakovich’s Moscow, Cheryomushki), among many others.
In 2014, she sang the part of Maria in Mazeppa under the baton of Alexander Vedernikov at the Royal Concertgebouw. She has given concert performances in Paris, Rome, Milan, Bari, Munich, Bonn, as well as in many cities and towns of Russia. The singer has collaborated with such directors as Robert Carsen, Mariusz Treliński, Silviu Purcărete, and David Hermann.
As a guest soloist, she has appeared at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in the productions of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Iolanta, Antonin Dvorak’s Rusalka under the baton of Mikhail Tatarnikov.
