Christian Vásquez

Christian Vásquez joined the San Sebastian de los Reyes Symphony Orchestra as a violinist at the age of nine. He began conducting studies under the tutelage of José Antonio Abreu in 2006 and was appointed musical director of the Aragua Juvenile Symphony Orchestra Jose Felix Ribas soon after. Following his debut with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra in October 2009, Christian Vásquez was appointed principal guest conductor of the orchestra (2010–2013). He has also cooperated with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Svetlanov Russian Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the National Center of Arts in Ottava, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2013, he became the principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, he became the principal guest conductor of the Het Gelders Orkest. He is also the musical director of the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, most recently leading them on a tour of Europe which saw them perform in London, Lisbon, Toulouse, Munich, Stockholm, and Istanbul. The conductor’s 2013/2014 season included projects with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Toulouse Capitol National Orchestra, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Beethoven Festival, and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. In season 2014/2015 Christian Vásquez made his European debut as an opera conductor with Bizet’s Carmen at the Norwegian Opera; that season, he also appeared with the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. In season 2015/2016, he cooperated with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra.
