Charles Castronovo
Charles Castronovo started his career at the Los Angeles Opera. In 1998, he was a participant of the Merola Opera Program of the San Francisco Opera. He was later invited to join the Lindemann Young Artists Development Program of the Metropolitan Opera. In 1999, he made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera as Beppo in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.
The singer’s répertoire includes leading tenor roles in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Così fan tutte, and Die Zauberflöte, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale, and L’elisir d’amore, Verdi’s La traviata and Rigoletto, Gounod’s Faust and Roméo et Juliette, Puccini’s La Bohème, Bellini’s La sonnambula, Ravel’s L’heure espagnole, and Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress. Together with Plácido Domingo, Charles Castronovo was a participant of the world première of Catán’s Il Postino.
He has performed at the Paris Opera, La Monnaie, Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, Megaron Hall in Athens, opera houses of Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Toulouse, Genova, Los Angeles, Pittsburg, Boston, Portland, Minneapolis, Belmont, Denver, Detroit, Chicago, and Santiago. He has appeared at the festivals in Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, London, and Savonlinna. He has cooperated with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He has toured to China, Japan, Russia, Sweden, and Denmark.
