Albina Shagimuratova

Albina Shagimuratova studied at the Kazan Conservatoire and completed her postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatoire. She also graduated from the Houston Grand Opera Studio.

The singer made her European debut as the Queen of the Night (Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte) at the Salzburg Festival under the baton of Riccardo Muti. She performed this part at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, La Scala, the German Opera in Berlin, the Bolshoi Theatre, at the opera theatres of Vienna, Munich, Hamburg, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, as well as at the Lucerne Festival among others.

Albina Shagimuratova performed Donna Anna (Mozart’s Don Giovanni) at the Glyndebourne Festival and at the Mariinsky Theatre, Violetta (Verdi’s La traviata) at the Houston Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, German Opera in Berlin, and at the Vienna Opera, the title role in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Los Angeles Opera, German Opera in Berlin, Bolshoi Theatre, and Houston Opera, Gilda (Verdi’s Rigoletto) at the Mariinsky Theatre, German Opera in Berlin, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and at the San Francisco Opera, Countess di Folleville (Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims) at the Bolshoi Theatre, Elvira (Bellini’s I puritani) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Aspasia (Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto) at the Royal Opera House, the title role in Rossini’s Semiramide with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Albert Hall and at the Bavarian Opera, Konstanze (Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Bavarian Opera and at the Houston Opera, as well as Neala (Donizetti’s Il paria) at the Barbican Hall in London. The singer performed the soprano solo in Britten’s War Requiem at the Bruknerhaus in Linz, the National Centre for the Arts in Ottawa, the Paris Philharmonic Society, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Gasteig Hall in Munich, at the Musikverein in Vienna, and at the Edinburgh International Festival.

She also performed at the G20 Summit at the Constantine Palace in St Petersburg, at the opening of the Summer Universiade in Kazan, at the annual summer concert series of the Lyric Opera of Chicago in the Millennium Park, and at the BBC Proms in the Albert Hall with Rachmaninoff’s Bells conducted by Edward Gardner. She participated in Tcherniakov’s production of Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila conducted by Vladimir Jurowski at the opening of the reconstructed stage of the Bolshoi Theatre (available on DVD). In 2017, she portrayed the legendary soprano Adelina Patti in a new film version of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. In 2018, Opera Rara released the recording of Rossini’s Semiramide with Albina Shagimuratova in the leading role.

She has collaborated with Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Hans Graf, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, James Conlon, Sir Andrew Davis, Adam Fischer, Patrick Summers, Peter Schneider, Nicola Luisotti, Laurent Campellone, Maurizio Benini, Giorgio Morandi, Alain Altinoglu, and Robin Ticciati. Albina Shagimuratova has also performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Florence Musical May Festival, and with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
