Vladimir Kekhman was awarded with the national premium Celebrity
On March 18, the Moscow Forum Hall hosted the national premium Celebrity. The General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre got the prize in the category ‘Culture’ for the revival of the theatre.
‘One needs real courage not to become a one-time patron of art but to get over all the difficulties and raise the theatre, to make it a European theatre’, Alexander Avdeyev, Minister of Culture of Russia, commented on the award. ‘The Mikhailovsky Theatre which was nearly forgotten has become a centre of attention, the theatre visited on purpose not only to get new impressions but also some ideas to think about’, Alexander Avdeyev said.
Mr Kekhman thanked for the appreciation of his work and shared the development plans of the Mikhailovsky Theatre: ‘In 2013, bicentennial of Wagner and Verdi will be celebrated; I hope the Mikhailovsky Theatre will present the productions which will become the important events in the world musical life’.
The premium was established by the Izvestia newspaper five years ago. First it was awarded in two categories — ‘Culture’ and ‘Good Deed’. In 2005, 16 people of art and culture, 13 patrons of art from 16 cities of Russia were awarded. Later the number of categories was increased; now representatives of business, sport, politics and other spheres get the premium annually. In 2010, 10 people were awarded, Minister for Economic Development Elvira Nabiullina, figure skater Evgeny Pushenko, linguist Natalia Bonk among others.
