The St. Petersburg International Film Forum

From 10–15 July, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will play host to the main events of the St. Petersburg International Film Forum. The Forum was first held last May, and its success gave rise to the idea of turning it into an annual event.

The Film Forum focuses on a wide range of current issues and trends, with a format that provides room for open discussion and in-depth dialogue between film-makers and audiences, and between people from different cultures and generations.

The Forum’s opening ceremony is set to take place at the Mikhailovsky Theatre on 10 July. The start will be marked by a performance from the symphony orchestra: from 17:00, the orchestra will perform popular favourites from film soundtracks in Arts Square. From 18:00, a big screen in front of the theatre will show live footage of the red carpet leading into the building. In keeping with tradition, Forum guests, including such outstanding directors as Krzysztof Zanussi, Carlos Saura and Alexander Sokurov, will cross the carpet as they enter the venue. The guest of honour at the opening ceremony will be opera star Anna Netrebko. After the ceremonial events and greetings, there will be a screening of Pedro Almodovar’s film, The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito).

Amongst the films shown at the Mikhailovsky Theatre over the following days will be works by Régis Wargnier, Stefania Sandrelli, Carlos Saura, Rustam Khamdamov, and Aki Kaurismäki.
Further information on programme can be found at the official Film Forum website.
