The Sleeping Beauty at the Hong Kong Arts Festival

Next March, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will present Nacho Duato’s production of the ballet The Sleeping Beauty at the Hong Kong Arts Festival. A total of five performances have been scheduled for between 17 and 20 March.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival, which was held for the first time in 1973, is considered one of Asia’s largest and most prestigious cultural events. Each year, it showcases the latest opera and ballet productions, musicals, jazz concerts, and circus acts. The programme includes over one hundred events in total, consistently presented to full houses. The festival’s huge popularity and prominence result from years of hard work on the part of its organizers. Over the years, it has hosted such performers as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Sylvie Guillem, Yuri Bashmet, José Carreras, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de France. The Teatro alla Scala, Mariinsky Theatre, LA Opera, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the National Theatre in London, and the ballet of the Opéra National de Paris have all presented their work here. The programme also includes the festival’s own productions.

The 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival will run from 19 February to 20 March 2016. Among the guest performers will be Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, pianist Alexander Melnikov, the National Theater of Korea, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Teatro Regio di Torino, and many others.

Tickets for festival events are scheduled to go on sale on 12 December.
