The Nutcracker in Your House
For our beloved visitors, we have prepared a New Year’s gift — a broadcast of “The Nutcracker” ballet choreographed by Nacho Duato. On 31 December, at noon and 6 pm (Moscow time) on our Youtube channel, in our social networks, and on the website of the Mikhailovsky Theatre you can watch the ballet that has become the main symbol of winter holidays. Anastasia Smirnova and Leonid Sarafanov will star in the main roles.
— I wish our spectators Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! The Nutcracker Prince is endowed with magical power, and I’d like to believe that I have received a small part of it because I come onstage as a Nutcracker for many seasons. May every child’s cherished wish come true in the New Year!
It is no coincidence that “The Nutcracker” is considered the most popular piece of the theatre. High hopes, tenderness, joy, and light sadness — you can find all of these in Tchaikovsky’s captivating music that combines the ingenuousness of a children’s fairy tale and symphonic music. The story of a girl who saw a handsome prince in a wooden nutcracker and was not afraid of the Mouse King turns into an exciting story about the forthcoming happiness and the lack of boundaries between reality and a magical dream. This is the way the Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato perceived the story by Hoffmann in his own version of “The Nutcracker”.
Happy viewing!
