The Hermitage Prize
Nacho Duato, Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet, has recieved the first Hermitage Prize in the sphere of culture and art.
The prestigious prize was awarded today in the St George Hall of the Winter Palace in the framework of the IX St Petersburg International Cultural Forum.
The award was presented by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova and Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. The laureates and guests of the ceremony were also greeted by Governor Alexander Beglov.
The Hermitage is a symbol of Russian culture, and the Spanish choreographer receiving the award named after the great museum speaks of Nacho Duato’s inseparable connection with Russia.
The choreographer became Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Ballet Company in 2011. Since then he has staged 14 ballets at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, including “The Sleeping Beauty”, “La Bayadere”, “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker”. This season Nacho Duato made his debut as an opera director and staged Georges Bizet’s “Carmen”.
Nacho Duato received the prize alongside Valery Gergiev, Director and Artistic Director of the Mariinsky Theatre.
