Summer of ballet

Summer, and along with it, the arrival of sunshine and warm weather appear to be indefinitely postponed here in St. Petersburg. However, for fans of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, this is no cause for concern. After all, they know that a succession of wonderful ballets, brought together under the tantalizing title „A Summer of Ballet“, will be staged whatever the weather. We are delighted to join ballet lovers in celebrating our very own „summer“, which has not only arrived but is steadily reaching its peak. Timeless choreographic classics and the best modern interpretations of immortal themes will brighten the already exquisite palette of St. Petersburg’s White Nights.

During this season, Swan Lake, Giselle, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, La Sylphide, La Bayadère, Romeo and Juliet, and The Sleeping Beauty will ensure theatregoers enjoy a whole host of unforgettable experiences and magical memories. An abundance of stars, led by Farukh Ruzimatov and Ivan Vasiliev, and special guests, such as Maria Vinogradova of the Bolshoi Theatre, are sure to turn our favourite ballets into something truly spectacular. And that’s not all: this season’s Summer of Ballet will take dance beyond the stage. A multitude of photographs, capturing fragments of famous ballets, the art of choreography, and scenes from life backstage which are usually hidden from public view will appear in exhibition halls and creative spaces around St Petersburg. The Mikhailovsky is lucky enough to have numerous fantastic photographers already working at the theatre on a daily basis. They are all different, and the way they view ballet naturally differs too, which will make it all the more interesting to see the results of their work. So, at the end of June, the Summer of Ballet will continue away from the theatre in the form of a city-wide photo festival. More details will appear in the news section of our website.
