St. Petersburg rewards Anastasia Soboleva

Congratulations to Anastasia Soboleva on being awarded the St. Petersburg Youth Prize for Achievements in the Performing Arts! The awards ceremony was held in the Arkady Raikin Variety Theatre on 10 December. Anastasia’s husband Viktor Lebedev, a Mikhailovsky Theatre Principal, is a previous recipient of the same prize, so the young couple now have two prestigious awards.

Anastasia graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Choreography and began her professional career at the Bolshoi Theatre. She has been dancing on the Mikhailovsky Theatre stage since 2013. Her repertoire includes almost all the principal roles in classical ballets: Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, the Sylph, Giselle, Cinderella, Kitri in Don Quixote, Nikiya in La Bayadère, and Lise in La Fille mal gardée. Critics have remarked on the „innate refinement“ of the ballerina, who is capable of „harmonizing the world around her“, but add that sometimes „little devils of disobedience“ spring out from behind this „calm exterior“. Anastasia will soon be seen dancing the role of Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty.

All of us here at the Mikhailovsky Theatre send Anastasia our hearty congratulations. We hope that she will go on to dance new and interesting parts and continue on her tireless creative journey, filled with inspiration!
