Special days at the Mikhailovsky

Red-letter days give you the perfect excuse to forget your cares, give your evening dress or best suit an airing, and, of course, treat yourself and your loved ones to an evening spent together as a family.

Gifts are an essential part of the celebrations and best planned in advance. But it can be hard to choose what to give to each person and where to buy your gifts. Want to make an evening unforgettable? Spend it at the theatre! For those who love special days and know a thing or two about celebrating them, here is our hand-picked selection of performances that will make a wonderful gift and fill those festive days with joy.

On 14 February, St. Valentine’s Day, we present our first premiere of the year: Johann Strauss’s operetta Die Fledermaus. Featuring Strauss’s delicate and graceful melodies, an enchanting love affair, young, feisty, and talented performers, the spellbinding beauty of the opulent interiors of St. Petersburg’s most sophisticated theatre, delicious desserts, and light sparkling wine, this is the ultimate romantic programme, sure to melt your beloved’s heart and show them how much you care.

On 23 February, Defender of the Fatherland Day, the Mikhailovsky will present Hidalgo of La Mancha, the foremost ballet premiere of the theatre’s anniversary season. Created by an international production team, Nacho Duato’s ballet will immerse the audience in the authentic atmosphere of Castile. This reimagining of Don Quixote is infused with the spirit of La Mancha. The stylish costumes, spectacular scenery, and, of course, fresh approach to one of ballet’s best-loved classics will ensure your evening is truly special.

On 8 March, International Women’s Day, we present La Fille mal gardée. This comic ballet will whisk you away with its captivating sense of fun and the veritable whirlwind of classical dance conjured up by beautiful Lise, lovestruck Colas, and arguably St. Petersburg’s most charismatic widow, the Widow Simone, played by the inimitable Nikolay Tsiskaridze. It is hard to imagine a more joyous and spring-like show for any lovely lady, and this is one that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
