Prince Igor dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the artistic career of Nikolay Kopylov
On 21 October 2010 the performance of the opera Prince Igor was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the artistic career of the singer of the Mikhailovsky Opera, People’s Artist of Russia Nikolay Kopylov.
He graduated from the Ural State Conservatory in 1977 and the same year joined the Sverdlovsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. He also taught at the Tchaikovsky Music College in Sverdlovsk. In 1983, he joined the Mikhailovsky Opera Company, where he performs the main roles in the operatic repertory. Nikolay Kopylov has a baritone voice of unique timbre and range and is known for his great stage presence. His repertory includes the roles of Di Posa, Onegin, Germont, Figaro, Tomsky, Eletsky, Marcel, Ibn-Hakia, Scarpia, Mazetto, Escamillo, Gryaznoy, Alfio, and Eisenstein among others. The singer also performs the roles of the contemporary compositions: The Sad Scald in Sergey Slonimsky’s Mary Stewart, Petruccio in Vissarion Shebalin’s The Taming of the Screw, Fernando in Tikhon Krennikov’s Dorotea, Ivan in Kholminov’s The Brothers Karamazov. In the opera Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin Nikolay Kopylov performs the title role of Prince Igor. Thanks to the great vocal school and natural artistic gift his performance is full of drama and bogatyr’s mighty.
In the performance on 21 October 2010 Marina Tregubovich appeared as Yaroslavna, Dmitry Golovnin as Vladimir, Alexander Matveyev as Galitsky, Mikhail Kazantsev as Konchak, Marina Pinchuk as Konchakovna, the orchestra was led by Mikhail Leontyev.
