Opera. The Best

8 March, Hermitage Theatre

This concert programme, featuring the Mikhailovsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra and opera soloists, has been designed and put together to ensure that the Hermitage Theatre audience enjoys a thoroughly delightful evening of opera to celebrate this special occasion. The concert will showcase pieces from across the full range of the operatic canon, with an equal balance of vocal and symphonic passages. Heartfelt lyrics and dramatic expression, passion and humour, simple melodies and lavish orchestral hues will all have their place in the evening’s entertainment. There will be music by some of the world’s greatest opera composers, including Rossini, Mozart, Verdi, Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Mascagni, and Puccini. As well as highlights from operas in the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s stage repertoire, such as Cavalleria rusticana, Un ballo in maschera, The Queen of Spades, Iolanta, and Tosca, the audience will hear rarely performed pieces from I vespri siciliani, Gianni Schicchi, and Madama Butterfly. The theme running through the evening will be Carmen, whose appearance on stage many Mikhailovsky Theatre fans still dream about.

The concert will feature Tatiana Ryaguzova, Maria Litke, Marina Tregubovich, Nikolay Kopylov, and Alexander Kuznetsov, with Peter Feranec on the podium.
