Opening of the 192nd season
On September 4, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will open its 192nd season with Aram Khachaturian’s ballet “Spartacus.” Since its premiere in 2008, Georgy Kovtun’s performance at the Mikhailovsky Theatre has become the hallmark of the troupe and one of the most popular productions in our repertoire. Magnificent processions and feasts, gladiator fights, spectacular choreography — each episode of the ballet captivates with energy and intensity of feelings. In one evening, the theatre’s leading soloists, corps de ballet, dress extras, opera soloists and choir take to the stage! You can see your favorite performance this autumn on September 4 and 5 and October 2, 3 and 4.
The opera season will open on September 6 with Vladimir Kekhman’s performance of “The Lady of the Camellias” to the music of Giuseppe Verdi. The poignant and elegant production about the tragic fate of the ballerina Margarita Gautier was appreciated by the audience not only in St. Petersburg, but also in Moscow. On September 6, a star cast awaits you: the lead is played by Margarita Shapovalova, Armand by Sergey Kuzmin, Georges Duval by Semyon Antakov. The special guest of the evening is People’s Artist of Russia Sergei Leiferkus, who will appear on stage as Baron Douphol.
Also September schedule includes ballet classics: “The Corsair” and “The Little Humpbacked Horse”, “La Bayadère” and “Cinderella”, “Swan Lake” and “Vain Precaution”, “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Giselle, or the Willis”, “Cipollino” " and “Romeo and Juliet”. Connoisseurs of opera will enjoy “Honor Rusticana” by Pietro Mascagni, “Carmen” by Georges Bizet and the operetta “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss.
