Neil Shicoff’s Russian debut
On April, 28 Neil Shicoff makes his Russian debut. The legendary American tenor is to perform the role of Eléazar in the opera La Juive.
The premiere of La Juive, which opened the program of The Year of France in Russia on February 19, 2010, became a notable event for the Mikhailovsky Theatre and gained great critical acclaim. The Mikhailovsky Theatre brought the masterpiece of the French grand style back to Russian musical theatre. Due to political reasons the opera has had a difficult stage life. Moreover, the opera requires amazing vocal and drama talent from the soloists. The Mikhailovsky Theatre managed to create a team including both guest stars and local singers. The large-scale opera by Jacques Halévy started a new life after the 70 year absence from Russian stage.
On April, 28 Neil Shicoff, hailed as the best Eléazar, will perform ‘the role of his life’. The stage director of the production Arnaud Bernard makes a special visit to St Petersburg to rehearse the performance. Peter Feranec, musical director and principal conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, will conduct the performance.
