National Dance Awards
The Mikhailovsky Ballet has been nominated for the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards in two categories: Best Foreign Dance Company 2008 and Best Male Dancer 2008.
The aim of the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards is the celebration of dance and dancers in Britain. Founded in 1999 the awards have rapidly become the dance event of the year drawing together the entire industry in sharing the very best of dance and ballet in the UK.
The awards are presented by the Critics’ Circle — the critics and journalists who see and review companies on a daily basis. There are 11 awards in all, though at the committee’s discretion one or two extra awards may be given including a Patron’s Award.
The nominations for Award for Best Male Dancer 2008 are: Denis Matvienko (the Mikhailovsky Theatre), Friedemann Vogel (the Stuttgart Ballet) and Edward Watson (the Royal Ballet).
The nominations for Award for Best Foreign Dance Company 2008 are: Mikhailovsky Ballet, National Ballet of China and New York City Ballet.
The 2008 National Dance Awards will be held at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre on Monday 26 January, 2009.
