Mikhailovksy Soloists to Represent Russian Ballet in Europe
Two major European cultural events are set to feature soloists from the Mikhailovsky Theatre ballet company.
Irina Perren and Marat Shemiunov have been invited to the Czech Republic to take part in the Festival of Russian Culture. The two dancers will be the principal guest stars at a ballet gala concert in the National Theatre in Brno on 19 February. They will perform works by contemporary choreographers: Dos que quieren, a miniature recently staged by Nacho Duato, and the Adagio of Sabina and Crassus from Spartacus. Czech audiences are particularly looking forward to Irina Perren’s appearance, as her performance of the famous pas de deux from Le Corsaire two years ago was greeted with rapturous ovations.
Classical ballet will be represented in the concert by another Mikhailovsky Theatre duo, Oksana Bondareva and Victor Lebedev. They will perform the Classical Pas de Deux, choreographed by Victor Gzovsky to the music of Daniel Auber. Incidentally, this is the number that Victor Lebedev danced at his graduation from the Vaganova Ballet Academy just two years ago. The same virtuoso piece figured in his Mikhailovsky Theatre debut and also in his first foreign tour, when he visited the Mikkeli Festival in September 2010.
Another pair of Mikhailovsky Theatre dancers will be appearing in Venice. Yulia Kamilova and Vladimir Tsal will perform character dances from famous Russian ballets as part of the Festival of Russian Culture at La Fenice Theatre. For their appearance in Venice, the artists have chosen the Spanish Dance from Swan Lake, the Pandéros from Raimonda and an excerpt from Don Quixote. The festival is one of the highlights of the Venice Carnival. In addition to the Mikhailovsky Theatre soloists, Russian talent will also be represented in Venice by soloists from the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers and the Lezginka State Academic Dance Ensemble from Dagestan.
