Ivan Vasiliev: photo exhibition

An exhibition of photographs by Sergey Misenko, timed to coincide with the premiere of Ivan Vasiliev’s one-act ballets at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, has opened in the Fireplace Hall of the Dress Circle.

In mid-April, Ivan Vasiliev’s triple bill of Blind Affair, Bolero, and Morphine debuted on the chamber stage of the Hermitage Theatre. On 14 June the three works will premiere at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.

“As an artist, I have always tried to live through my characters. I can therefore say I’m a lucky man because I have lived many lives, as many as the roles I’ve played,” remarked Vasiliev. “And now, in the role of choreographer, I’m creating my own story — a new life which I get to live out on stage. In the search to find myself, I live more and more lives. I suppose I have a lust for life.”

Ivan Vasiliev appears in the photographs along with members of the Mikhailovsky ballet company appearing in his productions. Among them are Valeria Zapasnikova, Anna Kuligina, Irina Perren, Sabina Yapparova, Ivan Zaytsev, Andrey Lapshanov, Alexander Omar, and Sergey Strelkov.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Au Pont Rouge department store.
