Homage to Farinelli 23.05.2009

Jean-Christophe Spinosi and the Ensemble Matheus will present a selection of music from XVIII century.

The Corsican musician Jean-Christophe Spinosi leads a double life, as both violinist and conductor. The point of intersection between his two passions dates back to 1991, when, aged only twenty-six, he founded the Quatuor Matheus. This quartet, with the addition of other instruments, became the Ensemble Matheus, with which he has since freely explored the most varied repertoires.

Jean-Christophe Spinosi has appeared as soloist and conductor with his ensemble in the major festivals and venues in France and abroad. Jean-Christophe Spinosi was appointed Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2006. He was also awarded Best Opera Conductor 2007 in France.

The concert at the Mikhailovsky Theatre is homage to Farinelli, one of the most famous Italian contralto and soprano castrato. The programme includes compositions by Vivaldi, Giacomelli, Telemann and other composers of the XVIII century. The concert is held within the framework of the Year of France in Russia.
