Guests of Honour Backstage

How would you like to take a peep behind the scenes or even stand on the theatre’s stage? Walk along the secret backstage corridors, wander among the scenery, and see how the auditorium looks from the footlights? Members of the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s Friends Club can do all this.

The Mikhailovsky Theatre holds its Friends dear, and is always pleased to welcome new members to the Club. Friends enjoy a number of privileges that are not available to other theatregoers. Friends Club members have their own personal manager who helps them to book tickets in advance, choose their preferred seats, and receive substantial discounts. Places in the car park are always reserved for Friends, who are also helped to book a table in the theatre’s cafe. But the main advantage for Friends is that they can be present at the magical inception of a new production.

Irina Spiridonova, Friend of the Mikhailovsky Theatre:
“I was lucky enough to be able to attend the orchestral rehearsal for the opera L’elisir d’amore. I am delighted that the Friends Club gives me the opportunity to immerse myself in the theatre’s daily life and to see things that are inaccessible to ordinary theatregoers. During the rehearsal I realized and appreciated the power of art. It was of absolutely no importance to me that there was no scenery on stage or that the performers were not in costume. There was no need for a translation of the Italian libretto into Russian. I was entirely wrapped up in what was happening on stage. Sometimes I even thought I heard applause, but the auditorium was empty during the rehearsal. I sometimes had to stop myself bursting into applause”.

Anna Neistadt, Honourable Friend of the Mikhailovsky Theatre:
“I have never seen so many beautiful women in beautiful dresses at the same time! New Year’s Eve on 31 December 2011 was the most outstanding event for me, it was pure magic. An excellent programme, a brilliant performance and a great audience!”

Members of the Friends Club can obtain tickets for private shows and ceremonies, and even autographs of the performers. Quite recently, Friends of the Theatre were able to meet the Swedish opera star Iréne Theorin: she gave them signed photographs as a memento and was generous with her good wishes.

The Mikhailovsky Theatre is grateful to all its Friends who help us to carry out vital tasks, from the purchase of ballet shoes to the organization of programmes for children.

You can find out how to join the Friends Club from our page on the theatre’s website.
