Giselle to help the victims of natural disasters in Japan

The Mikhailovsky Theatre, which has been giving performances in Japan for 30 years and maintains close relations with the country, reacted immediately to the devastating earthquake and tsunami by writing with condolences to its Japanese friends.

This moral support, so important at the time of such a grave ordeal, was followed by measures to provide the victims with material assistance. The Mikhailovsky Theatre, which owns the copyright to Giselle, ou Les Wilis, waived its royalties from the recording of the ballet and its distribution in Japan, in favour of the victims of the natural and environmental disaster that befell the country in March 2011. All the copyright and distribution fees for the recording due to the Mikhailovsky Theatre, choreographer Nikita Dolgushin, and designer Vyacheslav Okunev, will be transferred to the fund to assist the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
