First premiere of the new season!
2024 is the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, and Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” returns to the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s repertoire. This opera has long become a symbol of Russian culture throughout the world. The director of the performance is Nacho Duato, who successfully staged Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” on our stage this season. For almost 15 years, Nacho Duato’s life has been connected with Russia. The Spanish choreographer, erudite, esthete and a keen connoisseur of art, is fascinated by the culture and rich traditions of our country. We are confident that his approach to the opera “Eugene Onegin” will become a new milestone in the modern history of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The director’s co-authors will be Angelina Atlagić and Jaffar Chalabi, well known to St. Petersburg residents from many productions of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
“Eugene Onegin” was first performed in 1879 by students of the Moscow Conservatory — young and sincere artists were able to convey the full depth and lyricism of this opera. Today, at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the main roles are rehearsed by young and talented singers who brilliantly embody the characters created by Tchaikovsky: Alexandra Sennikova, Margarita Shapovalova, Kristina Kalinina, Semyon Antakov, Igor Podoplelov, Sergey Kuzmin, Egor Martynenko, Irina Shishkova, Victoria Voitenkova, Alexander Bezrukov.
Premiere performances of the opera “Eugene Onegin” will take place on October 10, 11 and 12. Tickets are already on sale on the official website and mobile app.
