Farukh Ruzimatov decided to continue his dancing career
Farukh Ruzimatov, who held post of Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet from May 2007 till October 2009, disclosed his decision to continue his dancing career as a performer.
‘For two seasons I tried to combine being Artistic Director of the company with being a dancer and participating in different artistic projects. It was high time I admitted that I wasn’t ready to leave the stage. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to do both things. I’m still a dancer first of all, and I can’t help dancing when I feel I can do it. That’s why I decided to quit as Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet. However, I’m going to continue cooperation with the Mikhailovsky Theatre, and I’m going to be Artistic Advisor to the General Director. The huge work done in the previous two seasons will be continued. The company is on the rise, I’m glad to see the enthusiasm and hard work, and the professional growth is obvious for everybody, first of all, for our public.

He wants to dance — and I didn’t manage to reassure him that his projects don’t prevent him from interacting with the company. The Mikhailovsky Ballet Company is now directed by Mikhail Messerer, the Ballet Master in Chief, who has been in charge since May 2009. ‘I’m grateful to Farukh Ruzimatov for all that he has done and, hopefully, will do for the Mikhailovsky Theatre. I respect his artistic gift; I’m proud of our friendship and really appreciate the support he provided in the first months of my work here. Our company is going to develop further, in many respects on the basis of great endeavors of Farukh Ruzimatov.’
