Earl Waldegrave Annual Scholarship to Vaganova Students
On 8th November the Mikhailovsky Theatre hosted the annual Waldegrave Award to the Vaganova Academy students. The award ceremony took place in one of the historical rooms of the Mikhailovsky Theatre followed by an informal talk about ballet career and latest developments in classical dance given to the Vaganova Academy students by Farukh Ruzimatov, Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet, and principals of the company. Anna Belorusova, Member of the Board of Friends of the Mikhailovsky, has participated in the event.
Later that evening Nikita Dolgushin, celebrated ballet dancer and repetiteur, welcomed the scholarship winners and their fellow students to the Gala Concert, dedicated to his contribution to the Russian art of dance, on the occasion of his 70th Anniversary.
The Waldegrave Award, a scholarship to the nominated best two students of the year, was given personally by Earl Waldegrave, who launched the prize in 2003. Earl Waldegrave, ballet enthusiast and friend of the Vaganova Academy, initiated and supported the organization of the exchange visits of the Vaganova Academy and The Royal Ballet School.
