Denis Rodkin stars in Don Quixote

On 28 November, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will welcome Bolshoi Ballet Principal Denis Rodkin to the role of Basil in Don Quixote. A past laureate of the presidential prize for young cultural professionals, Rodkin delights audiences with his particular charm, magnetism, perfect physique, and Prince Charming looks. The mischievous and uncompromising Kitri, danced by Angelina Vorontsova, will give her heart to Rodkin’s Basil without a second thought.

Denis Rodkin is recognized today as one of the brightest stars in Russian ballet and around the world. His performances at the Bolshoi Theatre have been broadcast in cinemas worldwide as part of the Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema programme. Notably, however, he began his career on stage in the corps de ballet. Nikolai Tsiskaridze noticed this gifted young man and saw his potential. Working with the legendary performer and teacher gave Rodkin confidence in himself. “I knew for sure that I was done performing,” Tsiskaridze later said. "I saw Denis and was fascinated by his beauty and his abilities. I took what was at the time considered useless material and made from it the theatre’s leading dancer."Today, Denis Rodkin’s repertoire includes every lead role in classical and modern ballet. He is guided in his work by the words of the greatest dancer of the twentieth century, Mikhail Baryshnikov: “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.”
