A Night in Gatchina Park
On 6 July, the Mikhailovsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Night of Music Festival in Gatchina. This is one of the most highly anticipated and spectacular events on the city’s summer playbill. Traditionally, for one night, White Lake in Gatchina Park is transformed into a stage for the symphony orchestra, its shores becoming the stalls for several thousand spectators. With the palace in the background, illuminated by spotlights and reminiscent of a medieval castle, a true celebration of classical music unfolds.
The festival programme will be divided into four parts. The night will begin with the overture to the opera Ruslan and Ludmila by Mikhail Glinka, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto № 1. These works will be performed by the Mikhailovsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, for whom the nighttime concert on White Lake has become a pleasant tradition. Our team will perform under the direction of maestro Dmitry Filatov. Laureate of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition, he is considered one of the most talented and promising representatives of the new generation of Russian conductors. The piano solo will be performed by Andrei Korobeinikov, a pianist with an inimitable style, and winner of more than 20 competitions across Russia, the US, Italy, Great Britain and other countries.
