A fairytale gift for children
On 11 December, children in need of special care and support will be given the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of magic as they watch the fairytale ballet The Sleeping Beauty performed on stage at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
Special charity evenings over the festive season are an initiative that has been running for a number of years now as part of a social programme launched by Disney in Russia. 2011 saw their first joint project with the Mikhailovsky Theatre, when 600 young guests from around the country were given the opportunity to watch the premiere of The Sleeping Beauty.
This year, the theatre will once again stage The Sleeping Beauty for children, featuring music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreography by Nacho Duato. The renowned Spanish choreographer has retold this magical fairy tale in his own way, using subtle humour whilst still retaining the ballet’s romantic feel. This clever, kind-hearted, and colourful production never fails to touch and entertain spectators of all ages.
The charity project has been supported by the Russian Presidential Administration for the past six years. Traditionally, it is orphans and children with disabilities or serious illnesses who appear on the guest lists for these Disney-sponsored festive events, as well as children from large, low-income families.
