Tickets for September performances now available

We are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for September performances. Tickets can be purchased on the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s official website or in the mobile app.

The upcoming season, our 189th, will begin with a premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s ballet The Little Humpbacked Horse, a new addition to our family-friendly repertoire. On 2, 3 and 17, 18 September, viewers will meet the characters whose journey to the stage began on the pages of the wonderful fairy tale by Pyotr Yershov. The adventures of Ivanushka and his faithful friend Horse are full of mischief and cunning. Nothing is too much for the loyal duo — even a trip to the bottom of the sea. This full-length three-act production will be a treat for children and adults alike, and a delight for all those who appreciate ballet performed in the classical tradition. The stage design includes motifs from traditional Russian Palekh murals, with their own distinctive take on fairy tales and folklore.

On 16 September, the opera season will open with Tchaikovsky’s The Oprichnik. The production was first staged in May, and has been recognized as a major event on Russia’s musical scene: “a real opera hit”. The opera is set several centuries ago, during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, and the director has let his artistic choices be dictated entirely by Tchaikovsky’s music: the production’s costumes and props are all historically accurate. At the centre of dramatic events is a young hero, ready to fight for his family’s honour and for love.

September’s repertoire also includes the eternally popular ballets Spartacus, Cipollino, and Cinderella. The opera season will continue with Giuseppe Verdi’s operas Aida and La Traviata.

See you at the Mikhailovsky!
