175th Anniversary of the Mikhailovsky Theatre

On 8 November 2008 the Mikhailovsky Theatre celebrated its 175th anniversary. In November a train of festive events took place at the theatre.

By serendipity, the anniversary day of the Mikhailovsky Theatre coincided with the birthday of Nikita Dolgushin — a famous ballet dancer, a repetiteur of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, who dedicated more than twenty years of his career to the theatre, celebrated his 70th anniversary. That’s why the festivities started with an evening devoted to the great personality of Nikita Dolgushin.

On 8 November ballet dancers from the Mikhailovsky, the Mariinsky, and the Bolshoi theatres congratulated the famous dancer and teacher.

On 14 November the jubilee gala performance took place both on the Arts Square and in the theatre. Especially for the jubilee famous Russian film director Sergey Debizhev with his crew shot a film about the Mikhailovsky Theatre, which was presented during the gala performance. On 15 November a gala performance of the famous Argentinean tenor José Cura took place. A gala performance of Farukh Ruzimatov became the final accord of the jubilee performances.
