The Mikhailovsky Ballet in Cannes

Mikhailovsky Ballet performed at the famous Festival and Congress Palace in Cannes.

On August, 26 2009 the Mikhailovsky Ballet performed at the famous Festival and Congress Palace in Cannes. The performance of the ballet company in France closed the programme of the Festival of Russian Art, patronized by Svetlana Medvedeva, the spouse of President of the Russian Federation. The Mikhailovsky Theatre for the first time took part in the Festival of Russian Art, held in Cannes in August 23-26. On the stage, that hosted most celebrated companies of the world, Farukh Ruzimatov, Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet, performed the part of Moor in the masterpiece of the American modern choreography The Moor’s Pavane by José Limón. Irina Perren, Vera Arbuzova and Andrey Kasyanenko starred in the other main roles of the ballet. Among the pieces of divertissement, included in the concert, there were Spring Water to music by Sergey Rachmaninov, Ocean and Pearls choreographed by Alexander Gorsky, and Pas de Trois from the ballet Le Corsaire, produced Farukh Ruzimatov.

• XII Festival of Russian Art in Cannes is held by the Direction of International Programs of the Russian Cultural Foundation. The programme of the Festival annually demonstrates the beauty and colorfulness of the artistic life of Russian regions. The Festival is patronized by Svetlana Medvedeva, the spouse of President of the Russian Federation.
