The Mikhailovsky Theatre on tour in Japan
The Mikhailovsky Theatre is touring Japan in winter 2015–2016. On 23 and 24 December, the theatre’s symphony orchestra will perform a special programme of classical Christmas music for the Japanese public. As per tradition, the subsequent concerts on 27, 29 and 30 December will feature Beethoven’s Fifth and Ninth Symphonies.
The ballet company will open their tour programme with a gala concert on 2 January 2016. They will perform excerpts from classical ballets: Nikolay Boyarchikov’s production of The Nutcracker, Mikhail Messerer’s version of Swan Lake, and Laurencia. In the days that follow, audiences in Japan will be treated to full-scale ballet productions, including Farukh Ruzimatov’s version of Le Corsaire, Laurencia, and Nikita Dolgushin’s original version of Giselle. The tour will end with four performances of Swan Lake from 9–12 January.
