Mikhailovsky Theatre on tour in Hungary
In April, the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s ballet company will head out on its first ever tour of Hungary. On the stage of the Müpa Budapest cultural centre, our dancers will perform the choreographic works of Nacho Duato.
A programme of one-act ballets featuring Without Words, Duende, and Na Floresta, which already have a rich touring history, will be presented over the course of two evenings (23 and 24 April). These productions reveal the multifaceted creativity of the Spanish choreographer, whose stint as Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre ballet lasted for three years. Our performers have already presented these ballets in Lausanne, Riga, Tallinn, Petrozavodsk, Voronezh, and Moscow.
Without Words, a meditation on love and death, is a unique story told through dance, portraying the cycle of a human life. The choreographer describes Duende, set to the music of Claude Debussy, as almost a sculptural work, in which the body follows the melody and creates its counterpart in dance. Na Floresta, which Duato set to the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos, celebrates «the freedom of the wilderness and the raw power of human emotion.»
