Nina Romanova

Nina Romanova graduated from the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. In 1976–2011, she has worked with the St Petersburg State Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre (Mikhailovsky Theatre). At the Theatre, she has performed Olga (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), the Countess, Polina (Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades), Lyubasha (Rimsky Korsakov’s Tsar’s Bride), Lel (Rimsky Korsakov’s Snow Maiden), Ganna (Rimsky Korsakov’s May Night), Marina Mniszech (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov), Marfa (Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina), Konchakovna (Borodin’s Prince Igor), Varvara (Shchedrin’s Not Love Alone), Elizabeth (Slonimsky’s Mary Stuart), Dorothea (Khrennikov’s Dorothea), Rosina (Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia), Eboli (Verdi’s Don Carlos), Maddalena (Verdi’s Rigoletto), Carmen (Bizet’s Carmen), Lauretta (Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi), Mama Lucia (Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana), Prince Orlofsky (Strauss’s Die Fledermaus), Clitemnestre (Gluck’s Iphigénie), Aldonza (Leigh’s Man of La Mancha), Mother (Szokolay’s Vérnász), Flora (Menotti’s Medium), and others. Her répertoire also includes vocal parts in Mahler’s symphonies, Handel’s oratorios, and Verdi’s Requiem among others. She has toured to Italy, France, Austria, Holland, Japan, Great Britain, and the USA among others. In 2003, she participated in the concert performance of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta conducted by Vladimir Jurowski in Bologna. In 2005–2007, she cooperated with the Nantes Opera Theatre, where she performed the Nurse in Eugene Onegin. In 2008, she performed the Nurse in Boris Godunov at the Dutch National Opera. In 2010, she has performed the Nurse in Eugene Onegin at the Lille Opera, Théâtre de Caen, and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Nowadays at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she performs the leading mezzo-soprano parts in the operas by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, and Boris Asafiev.
