Ekaterina Gubanova

Honorary graduate in choir conducting, Ekaterina Gubanova studied opera singing at the Moscow Conservatoire and Sibelius Academy (Helsinki), then she was a member of The Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, London.

Ekaterina Gubanova’s répertoire includes mezzo-soprano roles in operas by Christoph Willibald Gluck, Jules Massenet, Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini, Charles Gounod, Béla Bartók, Antonín Dvořák, Jacques Offenbach, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, and Sergey Prokofiev.

Ekaterina Gubanova appears in venues all over the world including La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, opera theatres and concert halls of Paris, Roma, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Dresden, Florence, Naples, Valencia, and many others. She has performed in Canada, Japan, Australia, and Israel. She has appeared in numerous festivals including BBC Proms in London, Stars of the White Nights in St Petersburg, Chorégies d’Orange, and Salzburg Festival.
She has cooperated with Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Semyon Bychkov, Kent Nagano, James Levine, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Muti, Gustavo Dudamel, Mark Elder, and other conductors.

In concert, she performed the role of Jocasta in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex in London and Stockholm, and vocal pieces by Mahler in Paris, Moscow, Seoul, Dublin, Wiesbaden, and Rotterdam, as well as at the Sydney Opera and BBC Proms. She performed the mezzo-soprano solo in Verdi’s Requiem at La Scala and at the Berlin State Opera, as well as in Los Angeles and Vienna.

Ekaterina Gubanova recorded Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Die Walküre under the baton of Valery Gergiev for the Mariinsky Label (2013) and Bellini’s Norma under the baton of Renato Palumbo for NAXOS (2015).
