Ara Karapetian

Ara Karapetian graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire as an opera and symphony conducting in 1994.

In 1992, he made his debut conducting Puccinis Tosca at the St Petersburg Conservatoire Theatre. In 19921997, he was a conductor at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 19972005, he was a conductor at the Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre in Moscow. In 20072013, he was the senior deputy of the general director and in 20132016, the general director of the Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre. Since 2016, he has been the artistic director of the Harbin and Tianjin Theatres.

He has collaborated with many Russian opera companies and orchestras. He has realized many opera and ballet productions. Some of his productions were nominated for or received the Golden Mask awards. The conductors repertoire includes more than 60 operas and ballets and many symphonic works. He has toured with various companies and orchestras across Russia and abroad.

Since 2017, he has been a guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. In March 2017, the oratorio St Matthew Passion by Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) was performed under the baton of Karapetian at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
