Getting ready for winter
The greatest winter fairytale of them all is coming to the Mikhailovsky Theatre this December —"The Nutcracker" .
Last year, the famous ballet celebrated the 130th anniversary since the day of its premiere. The world first saw Peter Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” with a libretto by Marius Petipa in December 1892. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the original version of the famous fairytale has been running for many years in the magical production by Nacho Duato. The magnificent design and unique choreography of this perennial masterpiece can transport us into a wonderful fairytale world. For good reason, many artists and viewers make this ballet part of their Christmas traditions. Romance, poetry, the battle between good and evil, and of course love — the wonderful series of performances of “The Nutcracker” opens on our stage on 19 December. To ensure that everyone who has still not bought a ticket can become part of a fairytale and get in the festive mood, the Mikhailovsky Theatre has added several matinee performances to the repertoire. On 23, 29 and 30 December, even the youngest members of the family can visit the theatre.
On 24 December, all Petersburg music fans can enjoy the festive gala concerts Let It Snow. According to tradition, the programme of popular musical hits performed by a symphony orchestra and true opera stars will be played twice: at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Songs which the whole world knows and sings are guaranteed to put the audience in a good mood, and the Petersburg twilight will be decorated by the fireworks of wonderful melodies.
